| Alice Springs |
In the centre of Australia surrounded by a red desert lies the famous outback town of
Alice Springs. ‘The Alice’ is the second biggest town in the Territory and combines a
strong sense of outback history with all the conveniences of a modern city.
The best way to get orientated is from the top of Anzac Hill which offers 360 degree
views overlooking Alice Springs and out to the rugged East and West MacDonnell
Ranges. Wander down the Todd Mall where you’ll find restaurants, outback pubs and
entertainment. The town also boasts one of the world’s best desert golf courses and botanical gardens.
Alice Springs is home to a number of great Australian ‘firsts’, including the laying of the
Overland Telegraph Line which opened inland Australia to the world, the Royal Flying Doctor Service, the School of the Air and the establishment of the Old Ghan railway.
Visit the Alice Springs Cultural Precinct to learn about the Arrernte traditional owners and some of the most interesting cultural and historical attractions of Alice Springs. View the
works of indigenous artist Albert Namatjira at the Namatjira Gallery.
