The most spectacular feature of the Katherine region is Katherine (Nitmiluk) Gorge in Nitmiluk

for adventure activities such as canoeing, and there are many popular picnic and swimming
spots along the river including the picturesque Katherine Hot Springs. The national park is
home to an abundance of wildlife, breathtaking waterfalls and fine examples of rock art high
on the gorge walls.
Katherine is a bustling regional tourist town located 300 kilometres south of Darwin, and the
first major town along the Stuart Highway upon leaving Darwin. The town boasts numerous
natural attractions and has a diverse history. Explore the nearby tropical limestone Cutta Cutta
Caves, or visit Springvale Homestead, one of the Northern Territory’s first cattle stations.
The township of Batchelor is gateway to Litchfield National Park. The main attractions of the
park include the unique termite mounds and the spectacular Tolmer, Wangi and Florence
waterfalls, which thunder from the cliffs to the rook pools below during the Green season. The
waterfalls flow more gently during the remainder of the year, making the waterholes perfect
spots for a refreshing swim.
