With an unspoiled coastline and subtropical climate the Tweed Coast is the perfect holiday destination for those seeking some solitude. Tweed Heads is the northern most tip of New South Wales, with the main street linking the
town with Coolangatta, Queensland. The area has great surf beaches and the beautiful Tweed River.
Further south along the Tweed Coast are the seaside villages of Kingscliff and Casuarina Beach. Here you will find sophisticated resort style accommodation with boutique shopping and excellent leisure facilities including walking and cycling paths and parks for barbecues and picnics. Discover the region by taking a cruise along the Tweed River or join a fishing charter. Explore the picturesque countryside, lush rainforests and World Heritage Listed national parks. Shop for a unique gift or souvenir at the Tweed Heads markets held on the first Sunday of each month, or for the ultimate in indulgence experience a spa treatment or massage at The Golden Door Spa at Salt Village, the largest day spa in Australia.
Byron Bay is a unique seaside village with a relaxed, alternative lifestyle and clean, undeveloped beaches. The region has transformed into a popular beach side retreat yet still maintains the informal culture it has become famous for. For a taste of the region’s fresh gourmet produce, local crafts and eclectic atmosphere, head to the local markets held on the first Sunday of each month at the Butler Street Reserve. No visit would be complete without a walk to Cape Byron Lighthouse, where you will pass through lush coastal vegetation and spectacular sea cliffs before reaching the pinnacle and being rewarded with views back over the bay.
Our tip
Kingscliff in the far north of New South Wales offers a fantastic location for families with pristine beaches and easy access to the attractions on the nearby Gold Coast. Byron Bay is a more "happening" place to stay - great beach and some lovely restaurants.
