The Hunter Valley Wine region is one of Australia's premier wine districts. Just two hours north-west of Sydney, it is also one of Australia's oldest wine regions and home to over one hundred wineries and cellar doors. The area also boasts art galleries and antique stores as well as amazing cheeses.

 Here you can kick back in the afternoon and enjoy some of Australia's best jazz against the stunning back drop of the Brokenback Mountains or sip the wonderfully crisp Hunter Valley Semillon matched to Hunter Chef's seafood creations.  You can see an opera under the stars and see the Milky Way in the velvet night skies. There are many ways to enjoy the region; stroll the stunning gardens at the Hunter Valley Gardens, watch the sun rise over the Hunter Valley from a hot air balloon, be pampered at a day spa or enjoy a bush walk in Barrington Tops National Park. Our tip

If you have your car with you the Cypress Lakes Resort would be my pick. The resort is set up to accommodate everyone and is in a beautiful typical Australian setting. For something more central the Grand Mecure Hunter Valley is a lovely boutique hotel within easy walking distance to wineries and attractions.
